The Potential of Electric Commerce (ec)
-- Could it be an Ace card in Revitalizing Local Economies? --
Recently, because the penetration of ICT infrastructure (including Broad Band) into local regions has been making a remarkable advancement,
local economies have started to cherish the benefit of this development in Japan.
This is to actualize the long time dream of those evangelists who had been promoting the benefit of advanced infrastructures of ICT
-- a picture in which ICT is deployed to close the gap between large cities and small villages.
"ec (Electric Commerce)" represents one of these usages.
e-Money which has become popular in large cities are now getting popularity in rural City of Matsuyama where time passes slowly.
A hot springs spa which has more than a thousand year history now accept e-Money.
Trading and commercial activities in this region are now experiencing drastic transformation by adopting the business model from Web 2.0 and Long-tail. There have been sprouting unique business activities in internet commerce.
However, as the numbers of users increase, and as the bright side gains their brilliance, the possibility of downside may increase. It is a question whether ec can close the gap between metropolitan and rural, whether it can become an "Ace card" in revitalizing local economy. The forum is open to those who would like to participate in this discussion.
